Rising gas prices hit hardest the population that needs to commute to work or study. Students driving to university campuses are especially sensitive because many now have an option of taking courses online; spiraling costs of commuting are helping them decide in favor of online instruction.
John Bourne of the Sloan Consortium says he expects the rising gas prices to bring about a classroom with a large proportion of online instruction. The Sloan Consortium, based in Wellesley Massachusetts, studies online education. Students interact with their instructors through message boards, video conferencing, chats, and VoIP. |
